Edited with an account on Georgian Sculpture, and a Short Account of J. T. Smith by Edmund Gosse 1894. Hardback. vii, 425pp. Red cloth boards with gilt to spine. No jacket. Originally published in two volumes by Colburn in 1828 and reprinted in revised form in 1829. The 1829 text forms the basis of this edition. Joseph Nollekens (1737 - 1823) has been considered to be the finest British sculptor of the late eighteenth century. Portrait frontispiece. Book in good condition. Boards a little rubbed with some wear to extremities of spine and edges. A little spotting but mainly confined to prelims and free endpapers. Book plate of Richard Shirley Smith (Painter & Engraver) to ffep.
