The village of this book is a Wiltshire Village (Kington Borel), it is a mythical place but embodies all that the authors have experienced growing up in that sturdily Saxon part of England. Village crafts, customs and characters are all recorded here as we journey through a village year. We encounter the thatcher with his hazel spicks, the benfits of a 'squeeze-belly', learn about old weather lore and dumbledores. This is a historic piece of England and it is faulously illustrated with etchings and pen drawings by Robin Tanner.
