First edition in a scarce dust jacket First edition, 1927. Scarce in dust jacket. Hardback. 327pp. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt to upper board and spine. Unclipped dust jacket in a protective sleeve. The story of a young boy kept in unhappy discipline by a governess in an old house, once the home of Captain Harker, West Indian merchant. Harker was supposd to have run away with the treasure of Santa Barbara Cathedral and hidden it somewhere near his home. Of the many who were seeking this treasure, last seen in 1811, none were more determined than the noted occultist Abner Brown and his circle. Chance interested the boy in the search for the treasure. In his search he receives the help of the Midnight Folk. The story describes the adventure of the two parties of seekers and the final discovery of what had happened to the missing treasure. Book in good condition. A little rubbing and soiling to extremities of spine. Text block edges a little soiled. Light toning and spotting to endpapers and occasional light sporadic spotting throughout. Dust jacket good. Unclipped. Generally rubbed and soiled. Some edge wear and nicks or slight loss to corners. Toned. Spine a little discoloured.
