Consisting of Old Heroic Ballads, Songs, and Other Pieces of Our Earlier Poets, Together with Some Few of Later Date. Edited, with a General Introduction, Additional Prefaces, Notes, Glossary etc, by Henry Wheatley, F.S.A. Three matching hardback volumes. Volume I: xcvii, 460pp plus publisher's ads at end; Volume II: vii, 397pp plus publisher's ads at end; Volume III: vii,423pp plus publisher's ads at end. Publisher's original red cloth binding with gilt to upper boards and spines. All volumes have top edge gilt. Volume I has patterned endpapers whereas the other two volumes have plain endpapers. Attractive decorated capitals throughout. No jackets. All three volumes are in similar good condition. The boards are generally rubbed and soiled and with some marking. Some bumping/wear at corners. Extremities of spines are a little worn and the spines are all a little faded. All three have the printed book plate of one A. J. Payne to the front paste downs. Internally the text blocks are pretty firm with an occasional crack the the gutters. All pages are present and firmly bound. A little light toning to paper and some occasional spotting - mostly to prelims and to advertisement sections. The three volumes make for quite a large and heavy parcel but no additional shipping costs to UK post codes. Overseas buyers please ask for a shipping quote.
