Volume XI of the Domesday Books Signed first edition First edition, 2000. Signed by the author to the title page. Hardback. 308pp. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. It is the juiciest piece of gossip the citizens of Norwich have heard for a long time. The ruthless robber baron Richard de Fontenel is himself the victim of a robbery. What makes it so delicious is that also missing, along with two priceless golden elephants, is de Fontenel's steward Hermer. Trying to create order from the chaos are Domesday Commissioners Ralph Delchard and Gervase Bret. They are keen to progress with the adjudication on a land dispute involving de Fontenel and a man called Mauger who is competeing with de Fontenel to woo Adelaide. But is the steward, Hermer, really missing or has something altogether more sinister happened? Book in very good condition. A little toning to the paper, otherwise a nice clean copy. Dust jacket in near fine condition. Unclipped. Very minor edge wear only.
