First edition. 1983. Hardback. 291pp. Red cloth boards with contrasting title panels to spine, gilt lettering. Dust jacket. Third volume of Dirk Bogarde's autobiography which begins when he finished working on Visconti's 'Death in Venice'. A very personal memoir about the time when he decided to make his home in France. This is about a stubborn, determined, modest man who clings to the countryside he loves, to his family, and to have the friends who, as he says, 'have pushed me along the road'. A man who is well aware that a sense of order, however firm, has no real power when life itself imposes its own patterns. Illustrated with colour and b&w photographs. Book condition: very good. Slight spotting to upper edge of text block. Faint offsetting from dust jacket flaps onto free endpapers. Dust jacket: good. Unclipped. Slight edge wear. Generally a little subbed and lightly soiled.
