Appendix in grey paper covers with no 204 stamped to rear. 1 - 85, [1]plus genealogical table at rear. Illustrations to main volume: frontispiece engraving of Philip Dormer Stanhope, Earl of Chesterfield with tissue guard; facsimile letter of Lord Chesterfield (facing page xiii); Richard, Earl of Scarborough and Philip, Fourth Earl of Chesterfield, with tissue guard (facing page li); Philip, Fifth Earl of Chesterfield and his son, with tissue guard (facing page lxxi); Old Bretby Hall, with tissue guard (facing page lxxiv); Philip, Fifth earl of Chesterfield, with tissue guard (facing page 1); Philip Stanhope, afterwards Fifth Earl of Chesterfield, with tissue guard (facing page 283); View of Chesterfield House with tissue guard (facing page 300). Many of the letters are in French. Book in good condition. Generally rubbed and soiled. Some wear here and there - mostly around the vellum corners and to lower edges. Previous owner's bookplate to front paste down. Some light toning/spotting to endpapers. Supplement covers lightly soiled and edges just a little rubbed and worn. Some light creasing to edges of genealogical table. Both main volume and supplement internally clean.
