Limited edition Copy no 4 of 15 printed on papier verge de Rives. Hardback. xii, 246pp. Bound in contemporary quarter leather over marbled paper covered boards. Gilt to spine and top edge gilt. Marbled end papers. Original orange paper covers bound-in. Born in Frankfurt am Main as Marie Catherine Sophie de Flavigny, she was the daughter of an emigre French aristocrat and his wife Maria Elisabeth Bethmann, a German banker's daughter. She entered into an early marriage of convenience to Charles Louis Constant d'Agoult, Comte d'Agoult with whom she had two daughters. Although she never divorced the count, she left him to live with Franz Liszt in 1835. She had three children by Liszt but maintained her own independence. Text in French. Book in good condition. A little rubbing to spine and to edges and corners. A little toning to fly leaves. Some spotting throughout.
