Translated by Aleister Crowley First published 1959. This is the fifth impression 1977. Paperback. 215pp. No dust jacket. Aleister Crowley described this book as 'the highwater mark of Eliphas Levi's thought and is written with the subtle and delicate irony of which he was the master.' It reveals the mysteries of religion and the secrets of the Cabalah. It deals at first hand with the problem and practice of mesmerism and tells of the invocation of angels and the evocation of demons. It discusses at length the thaumaturgists of the day such as Vintras and the phenomenon of the hosts that bled. The attack on Spiritualism and the contemporary account of the medium D. D. Home might come as a surprise to many readers. Very good condition. Slight soiling to covers but very clean and unmarked internally with a tight, unread feel.
