The cover of this issue of the Anglo-Saxon Review is a facsimile of the binding of Thevet's "Vies des Hommes Illustres" (Paris 1584), which was executed about 1604 for James I, King of England, Scotland, France and Ireland. Green leather with detailed gilt tooling to both boards. Six compartment spine with gilt titles. Top edge gilt. Seven illustrations (including frontispiece) with tissue guards. Decorated initials to chapters. Contributors to this edition include: Henry James, The Earl of Roseberry, Gilbert Parker, Algernon Swinburne etc. Book in very good condition. Corners and edges rubbed. Some spotting, mainly to endpapers, prelims and tissue guards, also to text block fore and bottom edges. A heavy book but no additional shipping costs to UK post codes.
