Introduced & transcribed by Dr Joel Swann. Limited edition. Limited edition with 'less than a hundred & twenty copies' printed. This copy not numbered. Hardback. Unpaginated with 8 leaves. No jacket (as issued). Titles set in Baker, a new fount designed by Russell Maret and cast by Ed Rayher at his Swamp Press & Type Foundry. The text is Centaur, designed by Bruce Rodgers, with Fred Warde's accompanying Arrighi italic, both cast at Whittington Press by Neil Winter. Blado has been used for the shoulder notes. The paper is 190gsm Bockingford from J P Paper. The book was hand bound. The three poems, introduced by Dr Joel Swann, were selected from the manuscript collections of Chetham's Library. The first poem, "on Struggling to Write', is from a ms that has connections to London, Cambridge & East Anglia in the early part of the seventeenth century. The second, 'To A Brother' is from a ms in a single hand, likely compiled in the 1620s and 1630s in Norfolk. Alexander Gossart published a transcription of the third poem, 'The Strongest Beasts' in 1873, the only one of the three to have been in print before. Book as new and unread.
