Chartwell Books, New Jersey, 1996. Book condition: very good. Just a very little wear to lower edges of boards. Small split (approx 3cms) between front pastedown and ffep at hinge. Binding very sound and unaffected by this. Dust jacket: good. Unclipped. Small closed tear to lower front corner and just a small amount of general edge wear. Bakelite Radios begins its story more than 100 years ago, when radio was a scientific toy, soon to be disguised in elaborate cabinets in late nineteenth century living rooms. As production techniques developed, manufactureres sought a material that could replace wood and be made to resemble it. Bakelite was the dream come true and many of these radios have become collectors items for their vibrant colour, art deco form and exuberant beauty. This book contains a wealth of information about how to start collecting, what to look out for and how to care for these radios.
