George Bell & Sons, Covent Garden, London, 1880. Book condition: good. Some light tanning to page edges and a little light spotting here and there. One page (162) has separated from binding. A little scuffing & bumping to corners, also to head & tail of spine. Full padded blue Morocco binding with five raised bands to spine. Gilt titles to spine, gilt titles and decoration to front. All edges gilt. Decorated end papers, tissue guarded b&w frontispiece. This edition appears to have been specially bound for Oxford High School and the front cover also bears the legend "Girls Public Day School Company Limited". The GPDSC was active between 1872 and 1905 and was established to raise capital to establish academic high schools for girls with a focus on high academic standards and Oxbridge entrance exams. This pleasing volume has an introduction by Charles Dickens and has 264 pages of uplifting content.
