Consisting of Historical and Romantic Ballads, Collected in the Southern Counties of Scotland; with a Few of Modern Date, Founded Upon Local Tradition. In Three Matching Volumes (4th edition, 1810). Fourth edition, 1810. Contemporary full leather binding. Gilt to spine with contrasting title panel. Gilt tooling to boards. Marbled end papers. 8vo. Vol. I: [8], clxxxiii, [3], 312pp.; Vol. II: [8], 446pp.; Vol. III: [8], 486pp. Vol. I contains a lengthy introduction together with Historical Ballads; Vol. II contains Historical Ballads and Romantic Ballads; Vol. III contains Romantic Ballads and Imitations of The Ancient Ballads. All three volumes in very good condition. Some scuffing and marking to boards. In all three cases the contrasting title panels are 'tender' and appear to have been given some adhesive repair to secure them. Some slight wear to extremities of spines. Hinges are rubbed/worn but all are secure as are the text blocks. All three volumes have occasional spotting, a very few 'dog eared' pages and occasional marks. There is some faint marginal toning to the paper and all three page markers are present but are now loose. Also a little offsetting here and there.
