Lincoln Cathedral MS.91 Introductions by D. S. Brewer & A. E. B. Owen This facsimile originally published in 1975, reprinted in 1977. Hardback. Folio. xxii, then unpaginated facsimile pages. Brown/grey cloth binding with contrasting title panes to spine. Robert Thornton deserves to be remembered with gratitude. Without his efforts we would be poorer by several important and unique texts, including two very good alliterative poems; we would lack a number of texts of which there are only one or a few other copies. We would also be without a remarkable glimpse of fifteenth century literary culture in the north of England. Thornton was not an original author himself, but the manuscripts he wrote out constitute in themselves a literary creation. Book in very good condition. A little rubbing to extremities of spine. Some light soiling to text block edges. Front paste down has the printed book plate of the late Eric Gerald Stanley (1923 - 2018), who was Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford. Internally very clean and bright. Small pencil correction to one page of the section on the manuscript's collation and handwriting. This is a very large and heavy book. No additional shipping costs to UK post codes. If enquiring from overseas please ask for a shipping quote.
