Main volume text in French. Profusely illustrated with black & white and colour plates, drawings, diagrams and tables. Gabriel Voisin (1880 - 1973) designed and built both aeroplanes and motor vehicles. Some marques recall racing success or an aura and a price reserved for an elite. The renown of Voisin is less easy to explain. He was not the most expensive, nor the most successful racing constructor, neither was he the producer of the greatest number of vehicles. Yet, Voisin cars were always remarkable, built in the image of their creator and he was present in the smallest detail of the design. Voisin saw the automobile as an agreeable, quick, silent and reliable means of transport; his company pursued this objective to the end without ever being influenced by fashion or personality. Very few of the original factory records are available and most of the cars, all with aluminium coach work, were recycled during the war or ended their days with the scrap merchants. Book in fine condition. Tiny mark to front decal (which looks like a small blue ink mark). Very small and faint mark (approx 6mm diam) to pages 286/287, as if something has dripped or dropped onto one page and then the book closed. English supplement fine and unmarked. Slipcase near fine with very slight and faint marking. A tiny bit of rubbing around the opening edge. A very heavy ensemble but no extra shipping costs to UK post codes. If buying from overseas please ask for a shipping cost.
