A history of moving toy horses. First edition. Original slipcase and supplement. First edition, 1992. Hardback. 376pp. Dust jacket and original printed slipcase. Together with the softcover supplement "An International Survey of Rocking Horse Manufacture" by Marguerite Fawdry. 48pp. This book examines the history of moving toy horses in England, America and Europe - especially Germany. It covers major toy horse manufacturers of the past and details important patents for rocking horse inventions in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Importantly, the book also examines ways of identifying the horses of certain manufacturers and makers' marks are clearly shown. There is also a chapter on conserving and restoring old horses. Roy Kinnane's photographs record the detailed workmanship that is discussed in the book and provide a glorious pictorial record of toy horses. The separate "International Survey of Rocking Horse Manufacture" covers Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Canada, The Far East and also provides an index and a bibliography. Book in fine condition and appears unread. Dust jacket near fine and unclipped. Just a little very light marking. Printed slipcase near fine. Softcover supplement very good. Very faint discolouration to covers. Some very slight creasing to lower corners. Altogether a very nice set.
